First Post

I'll admit I have been dragging my feet with regard to joining the Internet community. Charlie has both a myspace and a facebook. I've been content to occasionally peek at his profile and resisted creating my own. We began a babysite a few days after Langley was born in an effort to keep friends and family updated without making numerous calls. After a bbq at the Heiners last night (Colby and Brooke) I decided to jump on the bandwagon and create a blog. This is going to be my effort to document the boring daily activities and milestones of our lives for Langley. I also thought this would be a good way to "grow up" the babysite page.

I guess I'll write a brief summery of our lives to catch up. Charlie and I essentially grew up in Gilbert, AZ. We officially met in the first few weeks of our freshman year at Gilbert High during a swim meet. Charlie and Colby subtly introduced themselves and the rest is history. Charlie and I never broke up and have weathered numerous storms together. After the death of my mother in November 2002, we scrapped all plans for a traditional wedding and decided to get married on a pirate ship in front of the Treasure Island Casino in Las Vegas. We laughed throughout our ceremony. I think that is so symbolic of how happy we are together.

Charlie spend the next five years working in his family"s business and I finally completed nursing school. We discovered my pregnancy on the day of my final exams. It was an easy pregnancy. I was working nights as a telemetry nurse and taking classes at Arizona State University to complete my bachelors in nursing. On September 27, 2007 during a follow up ultrasound, we discovered the I had a condition called reverse end-diastolic blood flow of the placenta. In short, the baby was not being supplied with oxygenated blood. I was immediately admitted to the hospital of continuous monitoring. On September 29, 2007 at 04:07 Langley Ray was delivered by emergency c-section. She was in the NICU for 68 days and came home with us on Thanksgiving weighing just over 3 pounds. She inspired my move to NICU nursing and Charlie has had the privilege of staying home with Langley. He's planning to return to school to study child development.

We spend most of our time as a family. We rarely leave Langley with a babysitter, always an aunt. The zoo, park, and Joe's house are our usual haunts. Charlie and I are addicted to Lego Batman on the Wii. I'm hooked on coupon sence and Charlie enjoys golf, motorcycles and most recently go carts. Langley is almost walking. She got her ears pierced that week and is cutting one of two top teeth coming in right now. She says hi, baby and puppy.

Now to begin with the boring daily documentation. Langley is about to dine on a lunchable and Charlie and I are trying to resist the potato chips and Halloween candy. We never have those things in the house because they are far too tempting. This afternoon we'll go over to Joe's for dinner. I'm not sure who'll be joining us but, I bet most of the Holmes clan will eventually end up at home. I'm working tomorrow so I'll try to get to be at a decent hour. It's a big Tivo night though and Lego Batman is calling our names. Charlie's a complete insomniac so I'm sure he'll be up long after I fall asleep trying to beat the game.
